Tough Day

Well.. Just when I thought teaching is fun,

today a few of my students acted out and gave me attitudes about how I should be a better teacher.

The main complaint was that I gave them an exam that covers too many chapters (almost 7 chapters). "I never had an exam that covers more than 3 chapters!," one yelled. Another walked out the exam and said, "oh.. I am sick."
"I don't have time to study for this course."

when I was a student, I never thought of doing anything like this, but I guess today we have to hold the students' hand to show support so they can actually open the book and study.

Not suprising, when I graded the exam today, they bombed.

3 failing students at the tail end of the curve is not surprising right?

Dr. David: Treat this as a job, not as a career, so you will feel better. Remember: Teaching is not your main goal....you just need to satisfiy your "customers".. ** repeat 10x *** (echo)

When customers are happy. You get great review/ratings from them and you keep your job and continue to make a living.

If they want to learn, they will eventually. Either way, what they learn will not help them in the real society. So don't feel bad.:p I know you tried to leave no one behind.

These kids are spoiled. Do they think that they just pay to get the degree??

I remember when I was in nursing school, we were tested for 1-2 books (not mentioning chapters)at the end of the semester.

For the Board, it's everything in 4 years of school.

Tell them to see how lucky they are! brats!!!!!

I remember those days back in collage, our average score in physics is about 40 out of 100. The professor just use a standard deviation bell curve to rate our grades. Most students were stuck with a C (C'est moi), the lucky ones will get a B, and the real hard working ones will an A (That's Riceman, and till this day I hate him for screwing up the curve!)
