It's interesting to be a bilingual person. Although I am more fluent in mandarin, I have some difficulty expressing most important ideas with it. I guess my brain has been slowly converted into English mode. For example, when I have an argument with someone it will automatically turn into English. If I really want to curse the person, it will turn into Taiwanese (Taiwanese so far has some of the best cursing terms.)

It was a good speech and good that you gave it in Mandarin. Most Chinese people don't take psychological problems seriously in the same way as they would a physical illness. My parents enjoyed your talk
Yes, very good speech. Nice job, Dr. Lin.
Thanks for the support, gang. I think this is the first time people call me "Dr. Lin" so many times in one day. Interestingly, most people who came up to me at the end of the lecture ask me how to change "others" like their wife and neighbors instead of themselves. I guess my point didn't really pass through:)
It was a fun experience for me. Now I have a sore throat from this presentation.
Dr. Lin,
Frankly, I didn't really understand what you said. But it was surely entertaining by the seeing the interaction between you and the listeners.
These people who have been studying in Buddhism/meditation at Chan Cetner deserve a good afternoon break.
Not that I would understand, but how come I was not invited?
I didn't really invite anyone one. The Chan Center sent out the invite for me. The only person I mentioned to was Dave when I happened to see him. I will give a similar talk at TzuChi on 4/2.
Dave, that's a good feedback. I thought my speech is straight forward to understand, but I guess it is too technical. Will try to modifiy it.
since you like to call out people's names. do a sweepstake next time.
That was one of the funniest speech I have ever heard. It reminds me what I had learned (and forgot already) in my college psy. courses.
By the way, you should not have any excuse for your sore throat. You got Big size of bubble tea and high quality of microphone. Dr. Lin, don't you think it's psychosomatic in your own case?
Suggestion: Next time before you call out someone in your audience, try to entice people to volunteer with a lolipop/ prize as an encouragement. Geez. I am just not used to answer questions without rewards. ha ha
Thanks for the bubble tea.
I forgot to pay you guys:) My treat next time.
Sorry I couldn't be there, but I imagined it must have been quite a sight. Kudos to Dr. Lin :)
I believe strongly in the different emotional intensities of various languages. Local languages, especially dialogues, are often much more emotional than established common tongues. Taiwanese dialogue, for instance, conveys more emotion than mandarin. Hence, Taiwanese curses sounds much more intense and offensive than their mandarin counterparts.
So Doctor lin: how do you say "Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale" in Chinese? It would be interesting
Good Question.
The WAIS-III is called:
魏氏成人智力量表第三版
Both Jimmy and Dave tried it.
the China-ness may call it differently:)
and what was my score again? am I a genius?
Dave, I remember that you have very good processing speed (above 3 standard deviation from the mean population).
That explains how you make quick decisions like the way you choose your wedding photographers:)
Oh my god!!! I can't believe this conversation actually took place. Eatgod, all I can say is that you are a "GOOD" friend to Dav for being so kind and so encouraging for his unwated behavior.
Processing speed is important when you are only making right/ correct decision. If someone can just make decision quickly without properly thinking it through, the consequence may be painful/undesired.
So my question for eatgod is "do you actually measure the outcome of his processing speed?"
well, doing things fast with or without wisdom is another matter. I can't measure that:)
Nevertheless, a recent Science Time articles shows that when making an important decision, it's better to "go with your guts," than thinking about the pros and cons. Hopefully, this is what Dave did....
don't you worry..
I pretty much know what I want for the studio photos...& I am just "using" the photographer & their facility to acheive my goal. A lot of communication between the photographer/stylist will be put in prior to the shoots.
Let's just wait and see the result.
